Engineering Internship

I did an internship during the summer of 2023 with Exact Engineering, a small machinist shop specializing in designing specialty parts for a diverse array of industries. They are located in Newington NH. The company often takes on high school and college students and encourages them to pursue engineering careers here in the United States. To prepare for the job, I familiarized myself with Solidworks, the software they use to design their products. During my internship, I helped design a mount for a tool probe for when it is removed from a CNC machine. I designed three prototypes and calculated each cost, from the stock price to machine time and labor. Once the design was completed I shadowed one of their machinists who uploaded the files to a machine and cut the prototype out of raw steel. The best part of the experience was seeing a design I came up with go from my concept to a physical item I helped create.
